Job Summary
 
Avient-Pune is seeking skilled R&D engineer whose main responsibility will be to steer the polymer compound’s formulation and development in line with business objectives and market demands. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing a testing plan, procedure, maintain efficient manufacturing processes (injection molding/extrusion process), data analysis, communication of results in accordance with consumer, regulatory, and engineering test standards. In order to create sustainable products, the candidate will also help with the qualification and selection of raw materials and the optimization of product costs. 
 
Essential Functions
  • Formulation and development adhering to customer specifications, quality, and operational goals and standards
  • The candidate is expected to work closely with sales and product management team to translate functional requirements into technical specifications
  • Use a variety of sources and ideation techniques to develop new technology concepts that enable new product properties as well as applications
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation including formulation specifications and test reports
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the customers
  • Benchmark competitive products to understand value vs competition
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in polymer materials and manufacturing technologies
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Polymer Science/Engineering, Material Science (or related field)
  • 1 - 2 years of industrial experience with formulating and processing of thermoplastics with a strong background in polymer processing, molding, polymer structure property relationships and polymer blends
  • Expertise in Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE : SBS, SIS, SEBS, SEEPS, SEPS, SEPS-V)   formulation, compounding and molding preferred
  • Strong skills in the scientific methods and use of design of experiments for data-driven research
  • Working knowledge of material characterization techniques for rheological, mechanical and, thermal properties of polymers
  • Experience with product approval processes and qualifications at customers end is desirable
  • Knowledge of the SAP system

  • The candidate must be collaborative and work effectively across cross-functional teams to drive projects from lab-to-commercial scale
  • Independent thinker and self-motivated to address technical challenges

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to speak/hear clearly to communicate by phone or in person.
  • Ability to frequently stand, sit and walk.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
