Job Summary
This position will independently handle testing and characterization of materials for new technology development & new product commercialization. The Engineer will have the responsibility to complete analysis, characterization, data generation & interpretation within defined timelines. He/ she will also will involve in new projects to define and develop appropriate test method and to suggest specific actions based on data & observations made during the characterization. He/ she will strictly adhere and comply to Avient’s Environmental Health Safety and Quality Policies. This position is also responsible for reporting to management deviations from the policy when they are observed.
Essential Functions
- Operating the instruments related to Analytical testing (like FTIR, TGA - Thermogravimetric Analysis, DSC - Differential Scanning Calorimetry, TCD - Thermal Conductivity and Diffusivity, PSA - Particle Size Analyzer, HT-GPC, Optical Microscope, Viscosity (Specific and Intrinsic), CTI – Comparative Tracking Index etc.
- Actively participate in projects discussion with R&D Team to understand the testing requirements, provide inputs and perform testing accordingly.
- Comfortable with troubleshooting, calibrating, and performing preventative maintenance on above equipment.
- Drafting the SOPs for the newly developed analytical methods.
- Skilled at maintaining detailed lab notebooks & records and providing reports with data interpretation to requestors.
- Ensure acceptable levels of housekeeping, 5S and safe work practices in the lab in accordance with Avient standards.
- Skilled at using Word, Excel, and Power Point to create summary report.
- Independently driven, but skilled at working as part of a team.
- Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills.
- Creative and demonstrates analytical aptitude with an inherent interest in exploring innovative ideas and technologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time, talking, and listening.
- This position demands on site Job & 6 day’s week.
- Typical work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors/ Masters -Chemistry or Equivalent Experience
