Job Summary
The Sr. R&D Chemist position will work in the R&D group of SEM business unit in Mchenry, IL. This role is responsible for leading the development of innovative TPE technology. Responsible for developing a testing plan, and procedure, data analysis, and communication of results.
Essential Functions
· Leads development of TPE formulation, adhering to customer specifications, quality, and operational goals and standards.
· Contribution to TPE platform technology development through the application of statistical experimental design, product testing, and data analysis.
· Conduct literature and patent searches to guide experimentation.
· Identifies material and other functional specifications to meet customer requirements.
· Has multiple independent projects or joint projects; can work independently or in teams.
· Support marketing and sales through development of product and application data
· Partners with manufacturing to establish quality and testing conditions for new materials.
· Serve as technical resource across businesses.
· Present technical work within R&D, customers or conference with minimal guidance.
· Supervise one or more technicians as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or Material Science is required. Advanced Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or Material Science is Preferred.
· Relevant industry experience is preferred.
· Proven technical understanding of polymer science and engineering principles.
· Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: polymer chemistry, polymer structure-properties relationships, polymer processing and polymer characterization.
