Job Summary
- The Shift Rover is responsible for producing high quality Dyneema products in the most cost-effective manner and according to the production plan, while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards. They also execute the plans and directives from Supervision and Management.
- This position requires interaction with technicians, shift coordinators, and supervision within the PP production organization as well the plant services’ process engineers, logistics, quality, and maintenance personnel. This position monitors and controls the equipment processes for Personal Protection production via hands on interaction as well as MES and other operations system.
- This position serves as the first line escalation point for complex technical process issues throughout all facets of the Personal Protection manufacturing area. They will ensure equipment functionality as well as product quality
- This person is expected to be a Personal Protection process subject matter expert.
Essential Functions
Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility
- All employees have the responsibility to:

- Manufacturing Excellence – Avient Protective Materials wants to be 'best in class' in every respect, including manufacturing. To excel in manufacturing, we need to optimize how we do things. Roles and responsibilities are defined and assigned to those involved in the different Manufacturing Excellence Work Processes.
- Ensures that all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed by monitoring and providing the expected number of safety observations per month. Monitors safety and quality reports and take immediate action, as a daily first priority, to correct any safety and quality situations to ensure compliance with established parameters. Plans the detailed lockout and tag-out program for each major maintenance STOP and ensures that this is done properly.
- Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
- Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documentation and activities. Ensures company guidelines related to company policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping, and cost effectiveness are met. Helps maintain consistency across shifts.
- Facilitate teamwork within the shift and in conjunction within the entire PP production group. Aid in gaining resources for the team to fulfill objectives. Encourage team members to understand corporate and departmental goals/objectives and needs. Provide communication and/or direction to the production employees. Disseminate needed divisional, unit and corporate information to employees on a timely basis such as Safety and Key Performance Indicator information. Establish and maintain an open line of communication with all employees.
- Handles urgent and emergency situations and makes immediate adjustments to minimize downtime and prevent deviations. Utilizes good judgment in making critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety, and other related activities.
- Provides daily feedback to Coordinator, Supervisor, and support staff related to key process parament performance. Works directly with the Coordinator and will assist Technicians where needed.
- Ensures that the required raw and intermediate materials are available for each production line and meet incoming optimum quality specifications.
- Monitors and operates UD production lines.
- Proficient in the operation of all production and monitoring equipment and systems and able fill-in and provide training support where needed. Helps to determine best practices, support troubleshooting activities while understanding why they are done.
- Monitors utilities, security, environmental equipment, safety, and other items pertinent to UD Production manufacturing systems and other monitoring systems.
- Verifies production system information accuracy and completeness. Ensure daily audit paperwork and regulatory documentation is complete and filed and any outages communicated and resolved.
- Monitors performance of all production lines as well as utilities and ensure the monthly production targets achieved. Take immediate action, in conjunction with other departments such as Engineering, Maintenance and other production personnel, to correct any deficiencies and bring the process back in line with established parameters. This includes, but is not limited to, equipment repairs, and recommendations for: recipe changes, procedural updates, and temporary change controls.
- Maintains accurate account and whereabouts of visitors, location(s) of maintenance work, and production/support technicians.
- Leads the Shift when Shift Coordinator or a Production Operations Supervisor is not available.
- Maintain compliance with environmental programs. Promote waste reduction and recovery projects and incorporate associated operations in applicable manufacturing processes.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of liquid and solid hazardous wastes in Fiber production area.
- It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
- Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste storage facilities, logging required data. Safely handle liquid and solid hazardous waste.
- Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing site procedures and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Authorized to approve work permits per details included in site work permitting procedures. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
Knowledge and Educational Level
- Required to have experience in related technical field with 1 year manufacturing experience; OR AA/AS degree in related technical field with 2 years manufacturing experience; OR high school diploma with 3 years manufacturing experience.
- Six (6) months APM Dyneema Personal Protection production experience.
- Proven performance in the areas of production and leadership within the PP organization
Required Level of Experience
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and understanding of machine controls and instrumentation.
- Ability to follow appropriate SHE procedures and environmental regulations and policies.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and applicable work instructions.
- Taking responsibility and being accountable for personal behaviors and performance (self, equipment, and product).
- Ability to effectively lead team performance and to identify developmental opportunity for team members. Ability to hold technicians accountable their job performance and actions.
- Ability to set up and staff shifts efficiently. Firm understanding of production planning and scheduling activities.
- Analytical skills to be able to spot issues/deficiencies of varying complexity within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate and timely action to rectify.
- Mechanical competency and knowledge including equipment assembly.
- Ability to make informed and data driven decisions quickly, at times under pressure.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement to improve process efficiency and maximize first time right production.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation via hand-written forms and electronic database systems.
- Effective communication skills to receive information related to site and area goals, expectations and other pertinent information and translate to action in daily activities.
- Ability to organize, schedule and follow-up on activities based on area expectations and needs.
- Ability to contribute to, support and drive change management in the area.
- Capability to have interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to effectively communicate with teammates and other area support groups.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to operate forklift and overhead cranes.
Complexity of the Job
The Shift Rover will operate within the Greenville PP Production organization. Their decisions have substantial impact on the stability and quality of production processes. The ability to make timely judgment calls is critical to sustaining efficient operations. Deliberate communication with technicians is another critical function of position.
Rovers will be the first point of contact on the production floor for the UD technicians. They also work with Process Engineers for optimum production and special requests.

- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally handle up to 250 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with the exception of high noise areas.
- Proper personal safety equipment needs to be used while performing this job and that equipment is dictated by the plant safety guidelines.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents and outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
